Since January is known for fresh starts, I figured now was as good a time as any to give our laundry room a quick little low cost refresher.
Let’s take a trip back to March of 2012, shall we? 🙂
Why, yes…Yes, I did paint words on my floor. Stop giving me that look. 😉
I’ve learned a lot about myself on this little journey called homeownership. Things like…Don’t paint words on a floor that gets high traffic because it will begin to look like dog doo a few months after you’ve taken photos and put it out there publicly. Now you will spend the next couple of years on your hands and knees with a small paint brush touching it up every week. #truth
So, somewhere in the middle of last year I had finally had enough of the weekly maintenance and ended up painting it all a solid color to match the existing stained concrete in the rest of the house. You win some, you lose some and this project was definitely the latter of the two but honestly the main reason for this laundry room refresh is not so much about the aesthetics. Bottom line is it wasn’t functioning the way we needed it to anymore.
What it looks like now…
Before, above the washer and dryer, the shelves were not being used to their full potential and became a catch all for anything from old cleaning products to tupperware. The shelves were cleaned, and items were either thrown away or donated.
And now…
The gold wire baskets were a HomeGoods find. One holds extra paper towels and the other holds laundry boosters/stain removers.
Manuals that go with our vacuum and washer and dryer, and anything else in the laundry room were put into this pull out drawer organizer. I bought it from Staples a while back and we were using it as my daughter’s homework station, but for Christmas she received a lap desk that had storage so this got repurposed.
The top shelf holds our mop bucket, a container for floor cleaning cloths and my household cleaning caddy that’s stocked with supplies. I also put our washing pods in a glass vase for easy access.
I’m a sucker for pretty storage, but only if it’s functional above anything else, and I really feel like this time I nailed it for this particular room in our house.
I’ll show you the other side of the laundry room tomorrow. Honestly, it’s my absolute favorite thing ever and makes my heart go pitter patter every time I walk by. 😀
Oh okay…here’s a peek…
Ahhhh…. 🙂
