Who knew removing stubborn stains could be this simple? Just a few staple cabinet ingredients are all you need to make this homemade stain remover. Less time in the laundry room, and less money spent! Win win…Here’s how…
What is it with kids and white shirts? It’s like the minute you put it on them food starts throwing itself onto them! Luckily I was taught this super easy way to get rid of stains on virtually any piece of clothing and it has been a laundry life saver for years! Here’s what you’ll need…
Supplies:
- Baking Soda
- Dawn Dish Soap
- 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
- Measuring Cup
- Amber Spray Bottle
- Tooth Brush (soft bristled)
To make the mixture could not be easier…Just mix 1/3 cup Dawn with 2/3 cup hydrogen peroxide together into a measuring cup and pour it into an amber spray bottle. The reason you want amber is so light won’t break down the hydrogen peroxide over time, and since you won’t need all of this solution in one use, you want to be able to save it so you can use it when you need it again without having to make a new batch each time.
Sprinkle some baking soda on to your stains and spray the Dawn and Peroxide mixture on to it. It will begin to foam up immediately. Then take a soft bristled tooth brush and in circular motions work the mixture into the stain. Like magic, the stain will begin to lift almost immediately.
Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then throw it into the wash with the rest of your laundry and the clothing item will come out as good as new!
Hydrogen Peroxide does have a whitening effect so just be cautious of that if you use this on colored clothing. I have used it before on dark clothing and after scabbing the stain a bit I throw it into the wash right away so it doesn’t sit on the clothing too long. I figure if the clothing is stained and pretty much ruined anyway I have nothing to lose by trying to get it out with this concoction but more times than anything I use this on whites since those seem to be the real stain magnets.
