Filet mignon wrapped asparagus with a dollop of horseradish cream screams the holidays and is the perfect finger food appetizer to serve at your holiday party!
Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!
I wanted to pop in real quick and share a super easy appetizer for you guys to serve up if you’re looking for last minute ideas for Christmas or are already planning ahead to New Years.
Your friends and family will think you’re so fancy if you serve this filet mignon wrapped asparagus to them, but it’s so easy to make so you’ll have them fooled!
Pretty presentation is so important when you’re serving finger foods and you should try to always make things as easy to grab with one hand as possible, since most of the time someone will have a drink or small plate in their hand.
I love serving these filet wrapped asparagus as little packets tied with a chive ribbon. It’s so pretty and festive!
Perfect for any holiday get together. 🙂
You can definitely do this with an assortment of meats, but today I chose to do filet because for the holidays I love to go all out.
It’s actually not terribly expensive either since you’re slicing the filet thin. This makes about 15 little packets.
I cook the filet to a nice medium rare, and then set aside to cool. The meat is so tender and juicy and compliments the asparagus perfectly.
But by adding a little dollop of horseradish cream sauce on top, it sends this little finger food over the edge and has all the flavors of the holidays for me. 🙂
Here’s how to make it…
PrintFilet Mignon Wrapped Asparagus
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Cook Time: 20 minutes
- Total Time: 25 minutes
- Yield: 15 packets 1x
Ingredients
Filet Wrapped Asparagus
- 2 8 oz. filet mignons
- 1 lb. fresh asparagus ((woody bottoms cut off))
- 2 tablespoons butter
- fresh chives
- salt and pepper to taste
Horseradish Cream
- 2 tablespoons sour cream
- 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon fresh italian parsley (minced)
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Let filet come to room temp and season very well on each side with salt and pepper. Preheat oven to 400.
- Steam Asparagus until the color becomes vibrant for about 3 minutes. You want them to remain somewhat firm. Season with salt and pepper. Set Aside.
- In a small bowl, combine sour cream, horseradish, parsley, garlic and salt and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
- Heat up a cast iron pan on high. Add in 2 tablespoons butter. Place filet in melted butter to sear on each side (about 2-3 minutes)
Place cast iron pan in the oven for about 6-8 minutes. If your filet is thinner you will need to adjust the cook time. Just don’t overcook it.
- Remove the steaks from the pan, and place on a cutting board to rest for 10 minutes.
Once rested, thinly slice and wrap it around 2-3 asparagus pieces. Secure it in place with a chive ribbon and put onto serving dish.
Finish it off with a dollop of horseradish cream.
- Serve immediately or can sit out at room temp. Enjoy!
