Is it weird that I get excited for this time of year every year?
I might be one of the few that actually enjoys spring cleaning. To me it’s a reason to purge, get organized, and do maintenance. I also like to pretend I’m miss Martha, by getting everything in tip top shape around here.
Who am I kidding though?
Being a homeowner is hard. It is expensive, frustrating and heartbreaking sometimes. There’s always something to be done, and you don’t always have the funds to fix it (unlike miss Martha). However with all that said, properly maintaining your home is key to living well, and in the long run saving money.
Over the next few weeks I plan to go over this spring cleaning printable checklist with you and show you ways I complete some of the tasks at hand. I know spring is still a few weeks out, but why not start now? Let’s get a jump start on spring cleaning so when it does roll around March 20, you’ll be able to do the ‘fun’ things like planting new flowers or bulbs and decorating your house with bright and fun spring patterns and colors.
**BEFORE YOU PRINT THIS OUT- Look under “Bathrooms” see where it says “flush old meds down the toilet?” Well DON’T! After making this list a few people emailed me to tell me that it’s very hazardous to lakes, rivers etc…I was always taught to flush meds down the toilet, but if it’s hazardous to our planet then I’m not doing it anymore and neither should you! So contact your local pharmacy or hospital to find out how to properly get rid of old or expired medications.**
This free printable is yours. I recommend starting (if you haven’t already) a ‘home maintenance’ binder and keeping this inside of a clear plastic protector on the front page of the tabbed section for “Spring Cleaning.”
Come back Monday and I will show you my home maintenance binder and everything you will need to start your very own.
Oh and don’t forget to follow me on Facebook so you can keep up to date with what’s happening. That’s where I hang out the most!
Have a great weekend!

I definitely need some help in this department. I get overwhelmed because I’m not a naturally organized person, but I want to be, but it’s hard to think of how to organize things effectively. So, I’ll check back on Monday.

Don’t feel bad Libby! It’s a learned behavior. I wasn’t an organized person a few years ago, but as I get older and learn more I realize that anyone can be organized, it’s just something you have to work on like everything else! 🙂

Great list! I will print it out. But please don’t flush medications down the toilet. It’s dreadful for the environment. They should be turned in to your local police department or whoever collects these materials in your community.

Great advice thank you!

Thank you Brittany! Happy Spring Cleaning!

Thanks for this great checklist! Instead of flushing meds, though, the best disposal is through a medication take-back program. The DEA had one in late October and late April with locations all over the US: http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/

Have you thought of a Fall cleaning check list?? After the dust and dirt and mud (with kids and dogs and kiddy pools, there’s always mud!) all summer long, I always liked to have a Fall Clean Up similar to a Spring Cleaning… you know; get ready for fall and winter so that when the kids go back to school and/or the weather turns and keeps you indoors, you can grab that book and cup of tea and curl up on the couch with a sigh instead of a look of guilt as you look at the remnants of summer dirt and clutter.
