These Chinese style spare ribs are so juicy and full of flavor! You’ll be licking your fingers until the very last drop!
I have a thing for making Chinese takeout at home.
It makes me feel good because I know what I’m putting in my body versus ordering it out when you don’t know what kind of ingredients are in there.
Even though I always say no MSG when ordering takeout, really, I just never know…
So I’ve learned to play around with Asian flavors so when I’m craving something, I can whip it up myself. 🙂
One of my favorite things to make is spare ribs. Chinese BBQ is so great!
I love the combination of sweet and kind of sour with hints of ginger and garlic.
These Chinese style spare ribs are SO satisfying and go great with this easy homemade pork fried rice.
Whenever I cook spare ribs, I always cut them first. It cuts down the cook time and makes the meat caramelize more evenly when basted in the sauce.
And the sauce is the best part! 🙂
Garlic, ginger, Hoisin sauce…mixed with a few pantry staples and you have a quick and easy Chinese BBQ sauce to baste those delicious spare ribs with!
Of course, if you’re just looking for an amazing traditional style sweet BBQ sauce, then you need to try [this one].
Put these Chinese style spare ribs on your menu this week and you won’t be disappointed!
They’re all done in the oven so no grilling required. 🙂
Even in winter, you can still have a taste of BBQ!
And you can throw the leftover ribs (if there is any) in this Brunswick stew after to double your money. I love meals like that!
Here’s how to make them…
PrintChinese Style Spare Ribs
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 105 minutes
- Total Time: 115 minutes
- Yield: 12 ribs 1x
Ingredients
- 4.5 lbs pork spare ribs (about 12 or full rack)
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup Hoisin Sauce (*found in Asian aisle of market)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- splash red wine
- 1 tablespoon fresh grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon fresh garlic (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300. Cut spare ribs into individual pieces and lay on baking sheet with the bone side facing up. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 45 minutes.
- In a small sauce pan, combine all the other ingredients and let it cook on low while ribs are cooking.
- Pull out ribs and drain as much of the drippings out of the pan as possible. Then baste with BBQ sauce. Put ribs back in oven for another 30 minutes.
- Remove ribs from oven and turn them over to the other side. Baste with more BBQ sauce and put back in oven for another 30 minutes.
- Turn broiler on at the end to caramelize the tops just for a minute so the sauce doesn’t burn. Serve hot with rice or eat on its own. Enjoy! 🙂
