This creamy Southern cracker salad is an easy old-fashioned side dish made with buttery crackers, juicy tomatoes, red onion, and mayonnaise. Perfect for potlucks, cookouts, and summer dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sleeves buttery crackers, roughly crushed
  • 3 cups diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional chopped chives or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Add the crushed buttery crackers to a large mixing bowl.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes and sliced red onion.
  • Add the mayonnaise, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Gently fold everything together until evenly coated.
  • Let the salad sit for 5 minutes so the crackers soften slightly.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley or chives if desired.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use ripe summer tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • Add the crackers right before serving if you prefer more crunch.
  • This salad is best enjoyed fresh the same day.
