- 1 pound Italian sausage links
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large sweet onion, sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (15-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- Fresh basil or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Brown the Italian sausage on all sides, about 8–10 minutes. Remove from skillet and slice into bite-sized pieces.
- Add sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Cook for 5–7 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, oregano, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes.
- Stir well and return the sausage to the skillet.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 15–20 minutes until the sauce thickens and the sausage is cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
