Description

These hearty Salisbury steak mashed potato bowls are the ultimate comfort food. Juicy seasoned beef patties are smothered in rich onion gravy and served over fluffy mashed potatoes with sweet corn for an easy and satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Salisbury Steak Patties

1 lb ground beef
1/3 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

Onion Gravy

  • 1 tbsp butter
    1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 small can of mushrooms (optional)
  • 2 tbsp flour
    2 cups beef broth
    1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
    1/2 tsp garlic powder
    salt and pepper to taste

Bowls

4 cups mashed potatoes
1 cup corn
fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the beef mixture
In a mixing bowl combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion powder, salt, and pepper.

  2. Form the patties
Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.

  3. Brown the Salisbury steaks
Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook patties about 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

  4. Cook the onions
In the same skillet melt butter and cook the sliced onion until soft and lightly caramelized.

  5. Make the gravy
Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir. Slowly whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder.

  6. Simmer the steaks
Return the patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for about 10 minutes until cooked through and the gravy thickens.

  7. Assemble the bowls
Add mashed potatoes to bowls and mix in the corn. Place a Salisbury steak on top and spoon the onion gravy over everything.

  8. Garnish and serve
Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

For extra creamy bowls, stir a little butter and milk into your mashed potatoes before assembling. Frozen corn works perfectly for this recipe and can be warmed quickly in the microwave.
