Description

This homemade chili seasoning mix is bold, smoky, slightly sweet, and made with simple pantry spices. Skip the store-bought packets and make your own flavorful chili blend at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder

  • 2 tablespoons cumin

  • 2 tablespoons paprika

  • 2 tablespoons onion powder

  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano

  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a small mixing bowl.

  2. Whisk together until evenly combined.

  3. Taste and adjust salt, pepper, or cayenne if desired.

  4. Transfer to an airtight jar or spice container.

  5. Store in a cool, dry place for up to 6 months.

Notes

  • Use 3–4 tablespoons per 1 pound of meat when making chili.

  • Add more cayenne for extra heat or reduce for a milder blend.

  • Cocoa powder adds depth—don’t skip it.

  • This mix is also great for tacos, soups, and roasted vegetables.
