This homemade Cajun seasoning is a bold, smoky, and slightly spicy spice blend made with simple pantry ingredients. It’s perfect for seasoning chicken, shrimp, seafood, vegetables, pasta, and Cajun-inspired dishes. Ready in just minutes and better than store-bought.

Ingredients

Scale

2 tablespoons paprika

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  • Add all the spices to a small bowl.

  • Whisk or stir the spices together until evenly combined.

  • Transfer the Cajun seasoning to an airtight spice jar or container.

  • Store in a cool, dry place until ready to use.

  • Use about 1–2 tablespoons of Cajun seasoning per pound of meat or vegetables.

Notes

Adjust the cayenne pepper to control the heat level.

For a salt-free Cajun seasoning, simply omit the salt and season your food separately.

Fresh spices will give the seasoning the best flavor.
