Description
Learn how to freeze guacamole so it stays fresh and green! This creamy, make-ahead freezer guacamole is perfect for meal prep, taco night, and parties.
Ingredients
-
6 ripe avocados, seeded, peeled, and coarsely mashed
-
1/3 cup chopped green onions
-
1/3 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
-
1/3 cup sour cream
-
3 tablespoons lime juice
-
1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/4 teaspoon bottled hot pepper sauce (optional)
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, mash the avocados until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.
-
Stir in green onions, cilantro, sour cream, lime juice, salt, and hot sauce (if using). Mix until well combined.
-
Divide the guacamole evenly into freezer-safe bags or large ice cube trays.
-
Press out as much air as possible if using bags. Seal tightly and label.
-
Freeze for up to 1 month.
-
Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving. Stir well before enjoying.
Notes
-
For best results, use fully ripe avocados.
-
Lime juice helps prevent browning — do not reduce the amount.
-
Avoid adding tomatoes before freezing (they change texture).
-
If using freezer bags, lay flat to freeze for easier stacking.
-
Frozen guacamole may look slightly darker after thawing — stir to restore texture and color.
