Description

Learn how to freeze guacamole so it stays fresh and green! This creamy, make-ahead freezer guacamole is perfect for meal prep, taco night, and parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 ripe avocados, seeded, peeled, and coarsely mashed

  • 1/3 cup chopped green onions

  • 1/3 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

  • 1/3 cup sour cream

  • 3 tablespoons lime juice

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon bottled hot pepper sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash the avocados until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky.

  2. Stir in green onions, cilantro, sour cream, lime juice, salt, and hot sauce (if using). Mix until well combined.

  3. Divide the guacamole evenly into freezer-safe bags or large ice cube trays.

  4. Press out as much air as possible if using bags. Seal tightly and label.

  5. Freeze for up to 1 month.

  6. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving. Stir well before enjoying.

Notes

  • For best results, use fully ripe avocados.

  • Lime juice helps prevent browning — do not reduce the amount.

  • Avoid adding tomatoes before freezing (they change texture).

  • If using freezer bags, lay flat to freeze for easier stacking.

  • Frozen guacamole may look slightly darker after thawing — stir to restore texture and color.
