Ingredients

Scale

Onion Boil

  • 4 large sweet onions

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 packet Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • ½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Topping

  • 1 cups store-bought crispy fried onions

Bloom Sauce (Optional)

  • ½ cup mayonnaise

  • ¼ cup sour cream

  • 2 tablespoons ketchup

  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish

  • ½ teaspoon paprika

  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.

  • Peel onions and cut a deep “X” halfway down into the tops.

  • Place each onion on a large sheet of foil in a baking dish.

  • In a bowl, mix melted butter, ranch seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, Cajun seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and red pepper flakes.

  • Spoon butter mixture generously over each onion, letting it seep into the cuts.

  • Wrap tightly in foil and bake 45–60 minutes until fork-tender.

  • Open foil during the last 10 minutes to lightly caramelize the tops.

  • Remove from oven and spoon some of the buttery juices back over the onions.

  • Top with crispy fried onions.

  • For the sauce, whisk together all bloom sauce ingredients until smooth and drizzle over the onions before serving.

Notes

  • Add shredded cheddar before topping for a cheesy version.

  • Broil for 1–2 minutes after adding crispy onions for extra crunch.

  • Great served alongside steak, burgers, or grilled chicken.
