  • ⅔ cup water
  • 1 can (10 ounces) nacho cheese sauce
  • 6 large flour tortillas
  • 4 tostada shells
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup pico de gallo
  • ½ cup diced onions (optional)
  • Cooking spray

Optional Toppings

  • Jalapeños
  • Guacamole
  • Black olives
  • Hot sauce
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. Drain excess grease.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 3-5 minutes until thickened.
  4. Arrange two large flour tortillas in the bottom of the baking dish, overlapping slightly to cover the bottom.
  5. Spread half of the taco meat mixture evenly over the tortillas.
  6. Drizzle half of the nacho cheese sauce over the meat.
  7. Place the tostada shells on top of the meat layer.
  8. Spread half of the sour cream over the tostadas and sprinkle with 1 cup of shredded cheese.
  9. Add another layer of tortillas.
  10. Spread the remaining taco meat over the tortillas and drizzle with the remaining nacho cheese sauce.
  11. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese over the top.
  12. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
  13. Allow the casserole to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
  14. Top with shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, and additional sour cream before serving.

Notes

  • Add fresh toppings after baking for the best texture.
  • Let the casserole rest before slicing to help it hold together.
  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Add a layer of refried beans for extra flavor and protein.
  • Crushed tortilla chips can be sprinkled on top for additional crunch.
