Soft, chewy homemade cilantro and garlic naan made with yogurt and honey for incredible flavor and texture. This easy naan recipe bakes up golden and fluffy without a tandoor and pairs perfectly with curries, soups, and cozy dinners.
2½ cups white bread flour, plus extra for dusting
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 garlic clove, very finely minced
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
1 tablespoon honey
¾ cup lukewarm water
4 tablespoons plain yogurt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil, plus extra for brushing
1 teaspoon black onion seeds (nigella seeds)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and ground coriander. Stir in the garlic and yeast.
Make a well in the center and add the honey, lukewarm water, yogurt, and oil. Stir until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough by hand for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Lightly oil a bowl, add the dough, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 475°F (240°C). Place baking sheets in the oven to heat and preheat the broiler.
Punch down the dough and divide into 3 pieces. Shape into balls and cover while working.
Roll each piece into a teardrop or oval shape about ⅜-inch thick.
Place naan on hot baking sheets, sprinkle with onion seeds and cilantro, and bake for 5 minutes until puffed.
Transfer to the broiler, brush lightly with oil, and broil for 2–3 minutes until blistered and lightly charred.
Serve warm.
Bread flour creates a chewier, more authentic naan texture
Preheating the baking sheets helps mimic a tandoor-style bake
