Description

This creamy mushrooms in sour cream recipe is an easy 20-minute side dish made in one skillet. Rich, savory, and perfect for serving with steak, chicken, pork chops, or over egg noodles.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 16 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced

  • 8 ounces sour cream

  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt, to taste

  • Black pepper, to taste

  • Optional: 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (for thickening)

Instructions

  • In a large cast iron skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.

  • Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 3–4 minutes.

  • Stir in the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release moisture and become tender and lightly golden, about 6–8 minutes.

  • Reduce heat to low and stir in the sour cream, dill weed, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

  • If a thicker sauce is desired, sprinkle in the flour and stir until combined.

  • Simmer gently for 3–5 minutes until heated through. Do not boil.

  • Serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not boil after adding sour cream to prevent curdling.

  • Fresh dill may be substituted for dried (use 1 tablespoon chopped).

  • Serve over mashed potatoes, steak, chicken, or egg noodles.
