Ingredients
-
1 lb shell pasta (or other short pasta)
-
2 cups diced ham
-
1 cup frozen peas, thawed

1 cup sliced green onions
-
3–4 cloves garlic, minced
-
4 oz cream cheese, softened
-
¾–1 cup reserved pasta water (as needed)
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
-
1–2 tablespoons poppy seeds (optional)
Instructions
-
Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of the pasta water before draining.
-
In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta, diced ham, peas, and green onions.
-
In a separate bowl, mix the cream cheese with garlic and a splash of warm reserved pasta water until smooth and creamy.
-
Pour the dressing over the pasta mixture and toss to coat evenly. Add additional pasta water as needed to reach desired creaminess.
-
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Sprinkle with poppy seeds if using.
-
Serve immediately or refrigerate for 1 hour for best flavor.
Notes
-
Pasta salad will thicken as it chills—stir and add a splash of pasta water or milk before serving if needed.
-
This recipe is great for using leftover holiday ham.
-
For best texture, slightly undercook the pasta.
