Description
These copycat IKEA Swedish meatballs are tender, flavorful, and simmered in a rich, creamy gravy. Made with a blend of beef and pork and warm spices, this cozy comfort food is perfect served over mashed potatoes with lingonberry jam.

For the Meatballs:
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ lb ground pork
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely grated
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp allspice
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
For the Gravy:
- 4 tbsp butter
- ¼ cup flour
- 3 cups beef broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated onion, egg, milk, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix gently until just combined.
- Roll into small meatballs (about 1 tablespoon each).
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat with a little butter. Brown the meatballs on all sides until golden. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour. Cook for 1–2 minutes until lightly golden.
- Slowly whisk in beef broth until smooth. Stir in heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened.
- Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 8–10 minutes until fully cooked and coated in the gravy.
- Serve hot over mashed potatoes with lingonberry jam if desired.
Notes
- Don’t overmix the meatball mixture to keep them tender
- Grated onion adds moisture and flavor
- For extra richness, use full-fat cream
