A fun and festive tradition we look forward to every year! This Christmas cocoa is the perfect holiday treat!
Ever since my daughter was a toddler I started a tradition with her…
We wait until we get a cold night, and then put our Christmas PJs on, hop in the car with some cozy blankets and ride around with the windows down to look at lights.
It’s something my daughter and I look forward to every year, and really puts us in the holiday spirit. 🙂
We put on some of our favorite Christmas music, and talk about all the things we want to do during the holiday season. It’s a fun and relaxing night.
One of the things we have to have with us is Christmas cocoa. It becomes a staple in my house this time of year!
And I go through a ton of it!
The trick to creamy and rich hot chocolate is condensed milk. Everyone has there own recipes and techniques, but this is how I make our super delicious and very chocolatey Christmas cocoa…
This makes about 6-8 servings depending on the size of your cups
- 1/2 cup Good quality hot cocoa powder (I use this one. It makes a big difference!)
- 1 cup of sweetened condensed milk
- 6 cups low fat milk or water (you can use whole milk too if you want it super creamy!)
- 1/4 cup semi sweet mini chocolate chips
- pinch of salt
- splash of vanilla
Heat up your milk/water in a pot on the stove. Don’t let it boil, but watch it until steam starts to come off it.
Add in the cocoa powder and whisk…
Then pour in your condensed milk and whisk. Still watching so the milk doesn’t boil.
Turn off the stove, and add in your chocolate chips, splash of vanilla and pinch of salt. Whisk more until it’s completely melted and combined.
Pour it into your cup and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of red and green sugar.
So creamy and dreamy…
It’s seriously the best!
Talk to you soon friends. Take care!
