For the Steak Pizzaiola
- 2 pounds round steak, chuck steak, or cube steak
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Fresh chopped basil or parsley for garnish
For Serving
- Cooked spaghetti
- Grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Season steak generously with salt and black pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
- Sear steak for 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, cook sliced onions and peppers until softened.
- Stir in garlic, oregano, Italian seasoning, and crushed red pepper flakes.
- Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir well.
- Return steak to the pan and spoon sauce over the top.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until steak is fork tender.
- Serve over cooked spaghetti and garnish with Parmesan cheese and chopped basil.
Notes
- Chuck steak gives the richest flavor.
- Add mushrooms for extra heartiness.
- Leftovers taste even better the next day.
