These homemade pork and beans are rich, smoky, sweet, and savory with tender beans simmered in a thick BBQ-style sauce. The perfect easy comfort food side dish for cookouts, potlucks, and family dinners.
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Step 2Cook chopped bacon in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat until crispy. Remove bacon and set aside.
Step 3Leave about 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the pan. Add diced onion and diced pork shoulder or salt pork. Cook until onions soften and pork begins to brown.
Step 4Stir in brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.
Step 5Add pork and beans and stir until fully combined.
Step 6Transfer mixture to a baking dish if needed and bake uncovered for 45–60 minutes until thick and bubbly.
Step 7Top with crispy bacon and fresh chives before serving.
