Baked Vidalia Onion Dip Recipe (Easy Cheesy Party Appetizer)

This baked Vidalia onion dip is sweet, creamy and loaded with Swiss cheese. The perfect warm party appetizer for holidays, game day, or entertaining.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons butter
3 large Vidalia onions, coarsely chopped
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
2 cups mayonnaise
1 (8-ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped
¼ cup dry white wine
1 garlic clove, minced
½ teaspoon hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onions and sauté for about 10 minutes, until soft and tender.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, stir together Swiss cheese, mayonnaise, water chestnuts, white wine, garlic, and hot sauce.

  4. Fold in the sautéed onions and mix until well combined.

  5. Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 2-quart baking dish.

  6. Bake for 25 minutes, until hot and bubbly.

  7. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with tortilla chips or crackers.

Notes

  • • To lighten: Use reduced-fat Swiss cheese and light mayonnaise.
    • For extra browning, broil 1–2 minutes at the end.
    • Make ahead: Assemble up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate before baking.
