Ingredients

Scale

Creamy Ranch Layer

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup ranch dressing, divided
  • 1 tablespoon dry ranch seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Chicken Layer

  • 3 cups cooked shredded chicken

Cheese Layer

  • 2 cups freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Loaded Toppings

  • 8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup finely shredded lettuce
  • 1 medium Roma tomato, seeded and diced
  • ⅓ cup thinly sliced green onions
  • Additional ranch dressing for drizzling
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish or similar 1½-quart oven-safe serving dish.
  2. Add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, 6 tablespoons of ranch dressing, dry ranch seasoning, garlic powder, and black pepper to a medium bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  4. Toss the shredded chicken with the remaining 2 tablespoons of ranch dressing. Gently spread the chicken over the cream cheese mixture without pressing it down too firmly.
  5. Sprinkle the freshly shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the chicken.
  6. Reserve 2 tablespoons of bacon for garnishing. Sprinkle the remaining crumbled bacon over the cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the dip is bubbling around the edges.
  8. Remove the dip from the oven and allow it to cool for approximately 5 minutes.
  9. Top with the shredded lettuce, diced tomato, green onions, and reserved bacon.
  10. Drizzle ranch dressing loosely over the top. Serve immediately with sturdy tortilla chips.

Notes

  • Rotisserie chicken makes this dip especially quick and easy.
  • Seed the tomato before dicing it to prevent the dip from becoming watery.
  • Wait until after baking to add the lettuce, tomatoes, green onions, and ranch drizzle.
  • Freshly shredded cheddar melts more smoothly than packaged shredded cheese.
  • Assemble the dip through the bacon layer up to 24 hours in advance. Cover and refrigerate it, then add approximately 5 minutes to the baking time.
  • Store leftovers without the fresh toppings whenever possible. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to three days.
  • Confirm that the ranch seasoning, ranch dressing, bacon, and tortilla chips are certified gluten-free when serving someone with a gluten intolerance.
