Warning: This post contains nudity………….No, not THAT KIND!
Oh my gosh you guys! We’re 2 1/2 years in this home of ours and have been completely nekkid this entire time! Our next door neighbors have probably seen so much that I feel like I should be checking ID’s and charging admission. You see, this window…
Hi! Hello there! You can totally see right across to my neighbor’s windows too! Yikes.
Before we painted the room, hung faux brick panels, and painted them chippy white I was on a quest to find something to cover up this nudist of a window. I wanted something different, and something that would go with the easy breezy industrial vibe I want in this room. I searched my normal online bargain dealers like Overstock, Amazon, and Ebay but I just wasn’t feeling right about something. So I headed to Home Depot next and even went into Walmart…I was getting desperate, guys.
What was my problem?! Apparently our naked window is tall and voluptuous…no wonder she liked being a showoff…
So standard sizes would have fit, but not perfectly and that was bothering me. Going custom scared me, but it was our only option. I decided to venture into Blogland to see what everyone was recommending. (Gotta {heart} bloggers, ey? 😉 ) Sure enough on more than one blog…I found a clear winner and went on to Payless Decor to start my hunt.
Ordering custom blinds seems scary and complicated but it wasn’t at all. First off, I loved that they basically walked you through how to measure correctly. This way you put in your measurements to the exact tenth of an inch and they knew how to cut it down for you to make it fit the window perfectly.
Installing was a big concern for me. I’ve never installed anything but vertical blinds and curtains and was thinking that these Roman bamboo blinds were going to be crazy complicated. Thank goodness they weren’t at all! Probably easier than anything, well at least this kind was, I can’t speak for different brands and types…
We hung the included hardware before we painted the brick and it took all of 3 minutes if not less.
Mark the holes.
Drill pilot holes.
Screw in the brackets. I wanted my blinds to be completely flush with the wall so we hung it like this. If you have thick molding you can turn the bracket so it’s facing outwards to let the blinds hang over the ledge. I had mine cut so it would fall perfectly to the sill and be flush with no over hang.
After I white washed the faux brick, we hung up the blinds. You can see how there’s a slit in the wood just wide enough for the bracket to fit through. Then we simply screwed the washers tightly in place and made sure it was secure.
I couldn’t believe the difference in how shaded these blinds made the room look. I mean you can clearly see the difference in natural light (and the quality of my pictures!)
It’s seriously almost pitch black in there now when they’re shut, which I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, especially when spring and summer come because this side of the house faces southwest and gets super hot. These would also be amazing for a baby’s room! Close those blinds and it’s instantly nap time!
Add in the bonus of being able to look out but no one can look in and I’m officially hooked to these bamboo beauties! I’m sure our guests will be appreciating the privacy as well…Sorry neighbors! No more peep shows for you! 😉
Have you gone the custom route before for window treatments? I can’t imagine ever going back to my store boxed ways after this!
Talk to you soon friends, take care!
XO
