Replacing a Bathroom Faucet

The other day I shared with you an easy home upgrade that anyone can do to by switching out your old outdated door knobs for newer, modern ones.

Well the same goes for faucets!

I was recently approached by Moen to try out their Boardwalk Spot Resist bath faucet. Of course, I jumped on the opportunity because as you know we’ve been working on our bathroom for quite a while now!

But there was a catch…

We had to install it ourselves, yikes!

Being young homeowners, in our first house, we had never taken on a plumbing project before!

So even though I felt a bit intimidated, I was ready for the challenge..because this had to go!

Unhooking the old faucet fixture was easy as pie. We shut off the water, and within 30 minutes had everything undone, and pulled the whole thing out.

We decided to give our vanity a mini makeover by keeping the existing cabinet and painting it, but upgraded the counter to quartz with an undermount sink. It was a great decision, because it cost us so little but made a huge improvement!

Installing the Boardwalk Spot Resist bath faucet was easier than I originally thought it would be. Moen includes fantastic pictured directions in their box, so it’s totally DIYable.

After studying the directions for a few hours I was confident we could install it on our own!

What you’ll need to install this faucet is…

• an adjustable wrench
• a good flashlight
• screwdriver
• plumbers putty
• small hacksaw (we did, you might not: I’ll explain in a bit)

The first thing you do is get your hot and cold lines set up, and put the faucet into place with a bit of sealent.

From there everything you do is under the sink so get yourself a back pillow, a bright flashlight and make yourself aquainted down there, because you’ll be there for a little while.

The directions again were super simple to read. If you’re a visual person like myself then you’ll appreciate it because all I had to do was look at the picture, look at the pieces that were needed for that step, and then explain to my husband what to do, and he did it.

(This explains why I don’t have any pictures during this whole process…sorry!)

From there on was smooth sailing until we hit a bit of a snag installing the drain pieces.

This one and only snag left us standing around and scratching our heads for a good 30 minutes until we called our neighbor who is one of those “jack of all trades” types to come over and give us a hand.

Apparantly our new sink was a bit to low and that gray piece wasn’t fitting right into our P-Trap. So we had to use a small hacksaw to cut about an inch off so the water could flow through correctly.

Once that was all figured out, we were back into full speed ahead mode and knocked it out (with no leaks mind you) in about 2 1/2 hours.

Not bad for a first time plumbing project if you ask me!

And now…

The faucet looks AMAZING in our bathroom! It’s WaterSense compliant, but the thing that I especially love is the fact that it is SPOT AND FINGERPRINT RESISTANT!

We have super hard water here, and so far it just beads up and rolls right off the faucet and handles without leaving a mark, and because this was installed into our guest bath which doubles as our 5 year olds (who always has dirty fingers) bathroom it has been put to the test and has passed with flying colors!

New faucet, and less cleaning…SCORE ONE FOR THE MOMMA TEAM!
