Hi friends!
Today I wanted to share with you our at home snack center. If you have have young children-teens then you have probably heard at least one of these phrases in your house…
“Mom!!! There’s nothing to eat in the house!”
“Mom, can you make me something to eat? I’m starrrrrrrving….”
“MOM!!! Where’s the {insert food name here}?!?!”
First off, let me salute you mom’s who have more than one child. I only have one but she does have quite a few friends that come over on a regular basis, so I’ve kind of adopted these children in the sense that I’ve begun to feed a small army of hungry mouths almost every day! I knew I needed to create a designated zone somewhere in our house that was easy for these kids to get in, get what they need, and get out without destroying my kitchen. So I came up with this…
The goal was simple…Find a way to keep all snack items together in a way that was easy for the kids to help themselves. The easiest solution to this was to utilize two low sided baskets to corral everything, so that way they could easily see what they wanted without having to dig around for items and make it a mess.
I personally didn’t want the snacks in our pantry, because I was afraid of little, overly excited hands accidentally knocking over glass jars and other things, so I figured the best place for this would be in our laundry room which is just off of the kitchen.
We’ve had this metal shelving thing forever. It’s from Ikea and I want to say it was around forty dollars. When we lived in our rental it acted as our main pantry in the small kitchen, then when we first moved here it acted as a paint can storage rack for a while in the garage. Now, I found the perfect spot in our laundry for it and it acts as an extra butler-like pantry for overflow items and large kitchen equipment that I don’t want cluttering my counters but still easily accessible if needed.
That’s why I say that organizing is a process and something that’s always changes as your needs and wants develop. We’ve definitely gotten our moneys worth out of that rack! 🙂
I really like purchasing ready portioned out snack items, but you can easily utilize this system by making you own portioned out servings with baggies.
Creating a snack center made a world of difference! Not only for the kids but for me as well. Now, when I’m making a grocery list I just can glance over everything and see immediately what we do and don’t need.
So, how do you have your snacks set up for the kids? Do you have a similar system or something completely different? I’d love to hear all about it if you feel like sharing!
Talk to you soon friends, take care!
XO

I use the same concept and LOVE it. But I always have a hard time with what to put in it. Could you please share your list of snacks you put in? Thanks

AWESOME Baskets, perfect! I use an over sized glass jar, my kids range from 10 to 19 so glass is okay to use, ALL of the kids that come to our house know that we have it and love it. You can see whats in there! It was super cheap but a heavy duty glass. I fill mine with granola bars, gummy snacks, cracker packs and cookie packs!
