Happy Monday friends!
This weekend was a super productive one in my house, more specifically in my home office. I did a lot of filing, finished pulling together tax stuff (yippee!!) and even worked on prettifying some things in my office!
Now here’s the thing about my home office. It’s a hard working space. I spend about 10 hours a day in there doing work, paying bills, crafting, reading, social media-ing (huhh?) So even though I want to make the space as pretty as possible, in all reality FUNCTION is king in this room overhaul, so being able to make something that is super functional pretty is a win in my book! That’s how I ended up with this dalmatian print bulletin board…
The room is small, like a 10×10 box of white walls and a completely clean slate, so anything that hangs up or is put in that room needs to have a purpose since there’s not a lot room. I’ve had a bulletin board in there for a while. It’s a drop area for mail, bills, and school notices…
It was a no frills piece. Brown cork with a brown frame that I eventually tried to cover up with gold washi tape. It’s was an eyesore like a lot of office supplies are. So when I was staring at my office walls a few days ago and trying to come up with a way to add in some art without taking up too much space I realized I already had what I needed right in front of me!
So I removed everything off the board and took it off the wall. Painted it white…
Then using my {never ending pot} of gold gilding, painted the frame around it gold…
And then once I was sure everything dried after about 3 coats. I began to randomly paint black spots.
I wanted it to look like a zoomed in, blown up Dalmatian’s coat. Just call me Cruella De’Vile 😉
I used an oil based paint on the cork vs latex. I was worried that the latex would peel over time. The oil based seems to have been absorbed by the cork, so I’m thinking long term it will be okay, and yes…I can still pin things to it 🙂
It’s functional art, and SO PERFECT for my office space! I can’t wait to show you what I did to this area too, but I’ll wait until tomorrow for that 😉 Let’s just say life’s responsibilities have gotten a whole lot more organized and easier to deal with! Stay tuned 🙂
Talk to you soon friends, take care!
XO

How did you manage not to get the white paint on the frame or did you do it all in the white including the frame, then paint over the frame with the gold gilding paint? Then how did you avoid getting the gold on the cork that you painted wihite? Did you have to let the white paint dry for a day before painting the gold frame? Use painter’s or frog tape to make sure either paint didn’t get smeared on the other color? I’m not familiar with gold gilding..is it expensive? I assume you could buy it at any craft store?
