Snowy Star Card Holder

I’m always on the hunt for fun and easy ways to make my home more festive every year. This year it was specific hunt for a unique way to display our Christmas cards and pictures. When Ballard’s Holiday Catalog came out I had spotted something that I wanted to try and make, but was put on the back burner. Last week when I was out to tea with some lovely girls I spotted my inspiration hanging high above the tea room. Lucky for me they had more than one, and at a price I couldn’t refuse so I bought one for me and one for one of you! Yes, that’s right friends…this is a giveaway!

So in true First Home Love Life fashion I just couldn’t leave the star as is…

You can see it was a little too rustic country for my taste. So I rummaged through my craft paints to see what I could come up with and thought the Martha Stewart brand crackle finish paint could work. So my little helper and I got to work painting…

This paint is really thick, so the easiest way to get it covered was by using popsicle sticks. It’s comparable to spackling. So after I spackled my star I let it dry overnight, and the next morning I went in and found it beautifully cracked in all the right places. Wherever I had put the paint on thickest had bigger cracks, and the thinner application spots and teeny tiny cracks. It reminded me of snow on a tree branch…

I was loving what I saw but still needed to figure out how to hang cards on it, so I pulled out my jar of mini clothes pins and wood glue…

I tied a piece of cut burlap onto each side and hung it on the wall by our living room. It’s now the perfect place to display the cards we receive and the pictures that we take, and because I loved it so much I made an identical one for one of you!

How do you enter? Just leave me a comment below and tell me where you’d hang yours and what you would hang on it. This contest will run until Friday, 12-14-12 11:59pm EST, and then I will pick the winner using This giveaway is only open to US residents and anyone under the age of 18 must have parental consent.

Happy Holidays from my home to yours, XO!

Debbie, for some reason when I try to add the party link it doesn’t come up! What am I doing wrong?! So I can correct it. I’m right clicking, copy, pasting or copy image link into HTML and its not showing up! :-(

I was just browsing on here, and when I saw this, I thought it was adorable! The best thing about it, is it can change with the seasons. The snowman is only clothes pinned on, so instead you can clip on a flag for the fourth of July, a turkey for thanksgiving, etc… I would definitely hang in the kitchen, and use it to hang the favorite recipes of the season on it. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful idea!

I always need more room for cards and end up putting them in the most obscure places. This is a great idea and a little project I can do with my daughter over the holidays…great stuff!
